River Sketches
Mainly focused on a mile stretch of the River Nidd, just north of Lofthouse in Nidderdale, Sarah's river sketches are used as reference for oil paintings and some are simply left as an observation.
The drawings are a direct response to her surroundings, very spontaneous and free.
"I often find the drawings which are least 'thought about' are often the most successful and exciting, they capture a real essence of the river, the movement and light. By defining and redefining you pass on a story of how you see and what you see.
"It's a stunning location, with tall evergreens, dark pools and waterfalls, both tranquil and dramatic. The upper stretches of How Stean Gorge are also a much revisited site."
All of these are charcoal and soft pastel.
